Highlights from the Washington State Prevention Summit
Nov 15, 2021
On November 2nd and 3rd, four White Swan Community Coalition members attended the Washington State Prevention Summit: Wade Benge, Cesar Zatarain, Soledad Zintzun, and Julie Schillreff.
At the summit, they networked with colleagues from around the state while learning from experts in the field of prevention. Check out what they had to say!
"I enjoyed learning about opioids and opiate use disorders. It made me aware of how lethal substances are, and how it is important to have protocol when coming across an overdose to prevent death, such as applying Narcan (possibly multiple doses) and calling 911." –Soledad Zintzun, Student Assistance Specialist
"The prevention summit was a great opportunity to connect with coalitions around the state and exchange ideas to better improve prevention efforts in our communities. I really enjoyed the communal aspect of the summit and am excited to bring back new ideas to the community!” –Cesar Zatarain, Prevention Fellow
"I really enjoyed learning about the history of menthol cigarettes and how they've been intentionally promoted in Black communities. It was a great reminder of how so many of our social problems are rooted in corporate greed!" –Julie Schillreff, Coalition Coordinator
"A benefit for me to attending the Prevention Summit was gaining three packets: 2021 Alcohol Awareness Toolkit: #ProofIsInTheNumbers, Cannabis Concentration and Health Risk, and A Prevention Practitioner's Toolkit to Understanding HHS Region 10 Stare Cannabis Policies and Regulations. I also learned that manufactured cannabis extracts, wax, butter, and oils are now 35% of the marijuana market." –Wade Benge, Coalition Member
