Dream Makers Attend Yakama Nation Youth Leadership Summit

Jun 9, 2026

On June 8th, Student Assistance Professional Soledad Nanez took four White Swan High School students to the Yakama Nation Youth Leadership Summit — and by all accounts, it was a powerful day.

Students explored questions of identity, reflecting on how their culture, values, and beliefs shape who they are. They learned the importance of putting themselves first and letting go of the weight of intergenerational burdens — practicing positive self-talk, manifestation, and asking for help as concrete tools for their own well-being. A speaker shared their personal journey, offering lessons in trauma and resilience that resonated with the group.

And it wasn't all serious — students also got competitive, winning a game and learning how to war-hoop.

We are grateful to Soledad for making this opportunity available and to the Yakama Nation for hosting an event that so meaningfully centers the growth and healing of Native youth.
