District Staff Complete Youth Mental Health First Aid for Tribal Communities
Jun 4, 2026
Nine Mt. Adams School District teachers and counselors completed the Youth Mental Health First Aid for Tribal Communities and Indigenous Peoples training, culminating on June 3rd.
The evidence-based course teaches adults how to recognize and respond to Indigenous adolescents ages 12 to 18 who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, while honoring the historical journey and cultural practices of Indigenous peoples. Participants learned about risk and protective factors specific to Indigenous youth and how to apply the MHFA Action Plan in scenarios reflecting the unique needs of Tribal and Indigenous Communities.
Having nine staff members trained means more students have adults in their corner who can recognize when they're struggling and respond with both skill and cultural awareness.
